Create a New Look in Your Home for Spring!
March 4, 2013
Painting is by far the biggest “bang for the buck” way to create a dramatic change in your home. Here are a few tips from our Long Advantage Partner, Taylor Design Group, to help you create a custom classy look.
Start by choosing a rich classic neutral for the overall base color, and then mix in a couple of accent walls with your favorite colors for drama. Small spaces like bathrooms are a terrific place to experiment with bold colors, just make sure you have plenty of light.
Make those too low ceilings feel higher by painting them white. If you have ceiling fans be sure to use “ceiling huggers” and make sure they are white as well. Contrast is what you don’t want to a see. To create some architectural interest where there is little, paint the doors, trim and baseboards white like the ceiling. Here, you are looking for contrast against your rich neutral wall shade.
Your fireplace wall is an opportunity be painted a couple shades darker than your walls to add presence. To get that crisp polished look, paint the inside of the firebox flat black with fireproof paint. As we head into summer, you won’t be using your fireplace, but you can create an Arizona Fire. Place a collection of candles at different heights inside the firebox. When you light them you will have the warmth, flicker and sparkle of a fire without the heat
Finish up your new look by adding a colorful area rug to the living or family room and several pillows in coordinating colors.
